Dr. Rebecca J. Gilmour

I was successful in securing funding to create a full-class-set of take-home osteological kits! These 'Living Room Labs' consist of a full plastic skeleton model and various other active learning items. They were loaned to every student enrolled in human osteology at MRU in Winter Term 2021.

In November, 2020 I was a guest on SciSection, a podcast also broadcast on iHeartRadio, Apple & Google Podcasts, and the Humans and Science website. I chat with the host a little about my research, a little about how I got to where I am, and a little about some advice for students.

I was so honoured to have received the McMaster Student Union award for top instructor in the faculty of Social Sciences in 2019-2020. I was even more thrilled to have been invited to contribute a little blurb to the MSU's blog. You can access it, and other statements from other awardees, here:

Two of my own activities, and others created by my former undergraduates, have been included in the EXPLORATIONS: An Open Invitation to Biological Anthropology Lab Manual.

My contributions include: Articulating MNI in the Cranium and Roll-Up, Life-Sized Juvenile Age Estimation. Also see my website blog posts for both of these items!

I am thrilled and honoured to announce that I was awarded the MSU Teaching Award for the Social Sciences this year (2019-2020).

I was so glad to be invited to be a guest on Anthropologically Speaking, a McMaster student radio show hosted on CFMU 93.3 FM (Hamilton).

We chatted a little about archaeological excavation, a little about skeletons, and a little about my research on impairment and activity. I had a great time!
